White Rabbit. The Watch with the White Strap

Wonderland

Every morning Igor buckled on a watch with a white strap and looked at it more often than at his phone. He worked two jobs and was five minutes late to both.

On Saturdays he walked with his daughter Sonya in the park near their home. Sonya was five, and she loved hide-and-seek more than the swings. While she counted to twenty, Igor usually answered emails.

That April the paths had only just dried, and the first grass was coming up by the pond. In the morning Igor had put White Rabbit on his neck, a bottle his wife had given him for his birthday.

Sonya was it. Igor stood behind the old cedar by the water and, out of habit, opened his work mail.

Sonya found him in less than a minute. "Daddy, you smell like a fir tree, I followed the smell," Sonya said. The wind was blowing from the tree straight onto the path, and she simply walked into it.

Igor laughed and hid again, this time behind the gazebo. Then behind the lilac bushes, then by a bench with peeling paint. Each time Sonya came along his trail and clapped her hands in triumph.

They came home at dusk. His wife asked where they had been for so long. "Daddy was the rabbit, and I was catching him," Sonya said.

The next Saturday Igor took off the watch with the white strap and put it on the shelf by the mirror. He took Sonya by the hand and walked with her to the old cedar.

Vera0305 on Kosmetista writes: "Tender, delicate, fresh, white and green, a slightly sharp herbal scent… This is how the air smells in spring." Solnce1988 on LadiesProject compared it to fireflies: the accord "disappears from the skin, then appears again and plays with freshness." People wear it for a warm trail that draws loved ones along.
