Across the lake, in the window of an old house, a green light came on every evening. Modest could see it from the summer bandstand where the orchestra played, and he knew it was the lamp in Agatha's room. They had known each other once, but had not met for many years.

Modest played the clarinet. Every summer the orchestra was invited to a ball in the big house by the lake, where guests in last-century outfits danced until morning and [tall glasses sparkled with festive bubbles on every table].

In August came a warm evening. Before the ball Modest put The Great Gatsby on his wrists, and cocoa, saffron, pepper, cardamom and nutmeg opened warm and spicy, while dry warm notes gave the start more depth.

The orchestra began, and the hall by the water filled with music and laughter. Iris, jasmine, rose, tuberose, orchid and violet unfolded on his skin, powdery and lush, like the guests' evening gowns.

During the break Modest looked across the water again. The green light had gone out, and he sighed. A minute later Agatha came along the path by the shore.

"Every summer I listened to your music from my window. You smell of iris and spice, just like this party. Will you play for me?" Agatha asked.

"All evening," Modest answered and went back to the orchestra.

He played until dawn, and Agatha sat right by the bandstand, listening.

By morning vanilla, benzoin, tonka, sandalwood, cedar, labdanum, patchouli, leather and musk stayed on his skin, soft and warm. Dawn rose over the lake, and the green light came on again in the window across the water: Agatha had forgotten to switch it off.

How it smells

The start is warm and spicy: cocoa, saffron, pepper, cardamom and nutmeg sound festive, while a fragrant evening flower and dry warm notes add depth.

The heart belongs to iris, powdery and slightly buttery. Jasmine, rose, tuberose, orchid, ylang-ylang and violet make it lush; clove, sage and coriander add spice.

In the base vanilla, benzoin, tonka, sandalwood, cedar, labdanum, patchouli, leather, a warm golden accord and musk leave a soft, rounded and very long-lasting trail.

What makes it special

The Great Gatsby is part of Chilini Private. It is a dedication to F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby: a fantasy on the atmosphere and meaning of the book, a perfume image of the early last century made with modern means. The brand calls it a look from the future into the past, at what perfume of that time could have been and never was. It is a story about the dreams of a generation and about what never happened. It is a unisex spicy fragrance for autumn and winter.

DramaQueen on Fragrantica writes: "Unlike any other. Unique."

Nadezhda Limanskaya on Aromo notes: "It is bright, it is gorgeous, the mood is truly festive."

Marina Gronskaya on the likemarie blog writes: "A languid, captivating fragrance that stands for vivid emotions, outfits for social events and dancing until morning."

It is worn for a dream that shines from afar: at an evening celebration, dancing until morning and on an autumn night with music.
