Story

Arsentiy worked as a customs inspector in a seaport. He was observant and pedantic: with a single attentive glance he "read" a person and understood who stood before him and what that person was capable of. Demanding of himself and others, he was fair down to the smallest detail.

In November a cargo ship came into port after a long voyage.

In the morning Arsentiy put Observer on his wrists. Lemon, bergamot and lavender opened clean and strict.

The sailors went through inspection one after another; some were nervous, some tried to joke. Cardamom, coriander, nutmeg, clove and mint unfolded on his skin, spicy and cool.

Last came a very young sailor, Feliks. He placed a carved wooden box and its papers on the table himself.

It's a present for my mum. I've listed everything in the declaration, down to the last detail," Feliks said.

Arsentiy looked at him for a long time, then at the papers, and suddenly smiled.

Behaving simply and honestly always pays. Go ahead, and say hello to your mum," Arsentiy said.

Three years later Feliks came to the port as a first mate, and the first thing he did was drop in to shake Arsentiy's hand.

By evening ginger, musk and a warm golden accord stayed on his skin, warm and restrained.
