Story

Matilda was a diplomat. In her office room at the embassy a little orange tree in a clay pot stood on the window. It rarely bloomed, but when it did, the room became brighter and more serious.

Her colleagues knew that Matilda never answered barbs with barbs. Other people's envy and sharp words seemed never to reach her.

In November difficult negotiations lay ahead. In the evening Matilda put Neroli Protect on her wrists. Bergamot, mandarin, lime, grapefruit, mint, basil and petitgrain opened tart and cool, while almond, juniper berries and [a warm, sweetish note of cane caramel] softened the bitterness.

In the meeting room people argued loudly. Neroli, geranium, galbanum, heliotrope, hibiscus, laurel, clove, caraway, chamomile, jasmine, white rose and tuberose unfolded on her skin, and fig, dates and dried fruits added a warm softness.

Matilda spoke quietly, and gradually everyone began to listen to her. By the end of the evening they had agreed on everything.

At the exit her colleague Felix caught up with her.

"Matilda, you smell of orange blossom and something like pine. Arguments die down by themselves around you. How do you do it?" Felix asked.

"I simply don't take other people's storms to heart," Matilda smiled.

Late at night pine, white cedar, vetiver, sandalwood, patchouli, benzoin, cypress, tonka, resins and musk stayed on her skin, cool and noble. Back at the embassy, Matilda saw that the first white flower had opened on her little tree.

How it smells

The start is tart and cool: bergamot, mandarin, lime and grapefruit sound slightly bitter, mint and basil add green freshness, and petitgrain, almond, juniper and [a warm sweetish note] soften the opening.

In the heart neroli, bitter and noble, is surrounded by geranium, galbanum, heliotrope, hibiscus and white flowers. Laurel, clove, nutmeg and caraway bring spice, while fig, dates and dried fruits add warm, soft flesh.

In the base pine, white cedar, cypress, vetiver, sandalwood, patchouli, benzoin, tonka, resins and musk leave a cool, piney and very noble trail.

What makes it special

Neroli Protect is now discontinued. The brand describes it as a fragrance under the patronage of neroli: it enhances a person's brightness and charm, lends sophistication and nobility, helps one ignore envy and fosters tolerance. It is an evening fragrance, tart, cool and slightly bitter.

Alisa Zharikova writes: "The neroli note is subtle despite the name; it is hidden deep inside behind fresh floral and coniferous notes. A very noble fragrance!"

It is worn for calm dignity: at difficult negotiations, on a cool evening and on a day full of other people's passions.
