Bed of Flowers. Lilac on the Windowsill
Updated: Oct 16
Chilini Private
A sprig of lilac had stood in a jar on the windowsill for three days, and its tiny petals kept falling onto the painted boards. Every morning she swept them into her palm and threw them away.
They had rented the room together since April. He worked late, joked, kissed the top of her head, and had never once talked about what would happen in a year. She waited for him to say it himself and was afraid to ask.
On Saturday she woke early. His half of the bed was empty and cool. She put Bed of Flowers on her wrists, pulled on his shirt and went to put the kettle on.
He was not in the kitchen either, and her phone was silent. She stood by the stove holding a cup in both hands and felt the familiar worry rising again.
She raised the cup to her face, and the scent from her wrist rose with the steam. First green and fresh, with bergamot and melon, then rose and lilac, soft and powdery. The scent was bright, like sunlight on the floor of a morning room.
The door banged. He came in with an armful of lilac, wet with dew, and a bag of warm buns from the bakery on the corner.
He walked into the room and tipped the lilac straight onto the bed, onto the rumpled blanket. «I want every morning of ours to start like this», he said. «In a year, and in twenty years».
She put down her cup and sat on the bed right among the flowers. For the first time that spring all her questions felt answered.
Petals fell onto the blanket and the floor, and she left them where they lay.
I will strew our bed with flowers.
How it smells
The opening is bright and juicy: bergamot and melon, with lychee adding a cool sweetness.
Then the bouquet opens: gardenia and rose, lilac and peony, tender and slightly powdery.
By evening sandalwood and musk settle beneath the flowers in a soft, warm layer.
What makes it special
Bed of Flowers belongs to the Chilini Private collection, a floral fruity scent for women for spring and summer. The brand dedicated it to the moment a girl hears the words she has long been waiting for, and the card carries the monologue of the man of her dreams. A Fragrantica reviewer calls it a bright, tender, rosy-powdered scent about morning, youth, sun in the window and a whole life ahead. A Kosmetista blogger hears at the start the green sap of a snapped flower, then a lilac rose in almond powder. Another admirer on Fragrantica describes a cool rose with almond, a little greenery and shimmering powder. Bed of Flowers is worn in the morning, when you want to begin the day happy.
