Soldier. Russian Tales — the soldier of Russian fairy tales
Updated: Aug 31
Chilini Private
In Russian fairy tales the soldier arrives already after his service. The road is dusty, a bag over the shoulder, little in the pocket, and wit and kindness enough for the whole plot. The niche fragrance Soldier. Russian Tales by Edgardio Chilini is dedicated to this hero: not to a rank, not to a formation — to the one who in the tale comes through difficult situations by generosity, resourcefulness and a quiet smile.
He speaks shortly. He does not need long speeches to see where the truth is. The devil, the tsar, a hungry night — in the tale they meet him the same way: first a harsh manner, then an unexpected kindness. He cooks porridge from an axe not out of boast. He simply knows how to turn a little into enough for everyone.
The tale loves him because the good in it is not sweet. It comes with irony. The soldier does not deliver lectures. He does the work and leaves behind a warmth that no one expected from his look.
Irony and kindness, hidden in a harsh manner.
That is how the figure holds. In every story where the hero was a soldier, difficult situations look louder, and the one who wins is the one who remains a human being. The fragrance is built around that turn: a bright entrance, a resinous depth, a character that does not explain itself.
How it wears
The opening is juicy: lemon, apple, pineapple, nectarine, mint, anise. The oil gives resin from the first minute.
The heart — plum, blackcurrant, rose, jasmine, juniper, wormwood, birch, lavender honey. Juice beside bitter green.
The base: birch tar, patchouli, oakmoss, ambergris, sandalwood, vanilla, musk. By evening tar, moss and amber remain.
The construction is resinous-fruity. The theme of the tale holds in the tar and the moss, not in the sweet entrance.
What sets it apart
Irony and kindness in a harsh manner. A dedication to the soldier of Russian fairy tales. In 2016 the fragrance took first place in the Prix d’Aromes competition of Russian authors, in the La Niche space at InterCharm.
