Mandragora — a root that looks like a person

The root looks like a person, and for that it was given a power that cannot be measured. Some held it as a plant. Others as a being. To this day it cannot be said to the end what was taken in the hand. The niche fragrance Mandragora by Edgardio Chilini is dedicated to that root.
Enchantresses make from mandrake an ointment that gives dazzling beauty.
In medieval recipes it stands beside youth and beauty. Sapkowski writes of that directly. Goethe leaves another thought: the root points to treasure. People argued not about the smell — about what had been given into their hands. The composition is woody. There is herb and spice in it.
How it wears
The opening is short: Sicilian mandarin and datura. The citrus lights. The datura already pulls toward the root.
In the heart — mandrake. Beside it spice and wood: cinnamon, clove, coriander, rosewood. Damask rose holds the warmth of the flower.
The base is dark and warm: mahogany, sandalwood, tobacco, leather, vanilla, amber, musk. By evening what remains is wood, tobacco and a quiet leather.
The construction is woody, with herb and spice. The axis is the root. The citrus goes quickly. The theme holds in wood and leather.
What sets it apart
Not a common taste. The root remains a question, not an answer.
