Midsummer. The air hardly moves. The grasses are already warm, the green half-dry, bitterness and heat in the air. There is no sweetness. The niche fragrance Kenya by Edgardio Chilini holds that day in a bottle: heat, steppe, shrubs that survived without care.
A triumph of dried flora.
This is not a forest and not a garden. Shrub under a hard sun: thorny twigs, a scarce leaf, earth and the warmth of sun-heated twigs. Thought moves slowly, as it does in heat. From Efremov’s pages comes the same forgetting: wind, blaze, a distant river of faces and times. The herbs that hold the form grew by themselves. The steadfast survived. They ask for no pity and stage no drama.
It sings that the grass stood.
