White Queen. The White Silk Scarf

Wonderland
On her first day in the new position Ksenia tied on a white silk scarf to give her hands something to do. She had been put in charge of a group of five designers, and all of them were older than her.
The group argued loudly. At meetings Gosha tapped a marker on the table, and Ira interrupted everyone. Ksenia spoke quietly and feared her words were lost in the noise.
At home she rehearsed a stern tone in front of the mirror. It came out sounding like someone else, and Ksenia laughed at herself.
Every morning she put White Queen on her wrists. She had bought the bottle for herself to celebrate the promotion.
At the end of October the youngest on the team, Dasha, was preparing to present her first project to a client. An hour before the meeting her hands were shaking.
Ksenia took off the scarf and tied it around Dasha's neck. "It smells so calm," Dasha said. "Then keep it until this evening," Ksenia replied.
The presentation went well. In the evening Dasha returned the scarf and told everyone how she had handled each of the client's questions. Gosha put his marker in the cup and asked Ksenia what she thought of his sketches.
The next morning Ksenia tied on the white scarf and began the meeting in her usual quiet voice. All five of them heard her.
