On Ruslan's desk stood an empty glass inkwell with a brass lid. He had found it in the archive's basement storeroom on his first day at work, washed it and kept it in front of him ever since, although he wrote only on the computer.

For half a year Ruslan had been sorting old city letters in the basement. It was cool and quiet there, a single lamp was always on, and by summer he had almost forgotten what colour the sky was at midday.

On a June morning he was moved upstairs, to the reading room with its tall windows. He put Pomegranate Sorbet on his wrists, and cranberry, blackcurrant and pink pepper sounded bright and tart, while marigold added a green bitterness.

By noon pomegranate, magnolia and lotus had opened on his skin, juicy and floral, with a warm spark of ginger. Sun poured through the reading room windows, and Ruslan laid the letters out right in the light, studying the faded signatures.

At the next table worked the postgraduate Nonna, who had spent three months searching the archive for the letters of a city gardener.

"Ruslan, you smell of pomegranate juice, as if you'd just squeezed it. Even the dust has cheered up in here," laughed Nonna. Ruslan laughed back and brought her a box of letters he had found that morning.

By evening the warm notes of sandalwood, vetiver and cedar remained, soft and woody. The reading room emptied, and Ruslan looked at the inkwell.

He filled it with red ink, dipped an old pen and wrote the first card for a new shelf in the reading room.

How it sounds

The opening is bright and tart: cranberry, blackcurrant and pink pepper give a juicy berry spark, avocado softness, and marigold a green bitterness.

At the heart is the main theme, pomegranate: juicy, sweet and sour, slightly astringent. Magnolia, lotus, violet, cyclamen, freesia and orchid surround it with flowers, osmanthus adds softness, and ginger and rhubarb a fresh spice.

In the base sandalwood, vetiver and cedar give a warm woody sound and leave a clean, calm trail.

What makes it special

Pomegranate Sorbet belongs to the Olfactorium collection and the sorbet series. The brand describes it as a sweetish fragrance with a slight sourness and astringent accents: juicy pomegranate is complemented by pink pepper, cranberry, blackcurrant and marigold, and in the heart it is surrounded by lotus, magnolia, ginger and cyclamen. It is a juicy fruity floral unisex fragrance for spring and summer.

Olgolga on Fragrantica writes: "A complex fragrance with the right proportions of sourness and sweetness. Ideal for summer."

Nadezhda Limanskaya on Aromo notes that it is "exactly juicy, ruby, pomegranate juice, with its own sweetness and a light astringent touch." Kurmanova V. on chilini.ru writes: "As if you had eaten a pomegranate seed and felt that sweet and sour taste."

*Quotes translated from Russian.*

People wear it for liveliness: on the first day in a new place and at a sunny summer midday.
