Wonderland

In Ira's hallway her grandfather's old felt bowler hat hung on a hook. For three years she had been too shy to go out wearing it.

Ira worked from home as a proofreader and talked to few people. She recognised the neighbours in her building only by the sound of their footsteps.

In October new tables and benches were set up in the yard. All weekend they stood empty under the yellow maples.

A week later Ira put Mad Hatter on her skin, a warm, sweetish scent of wood and spice.

She carried a thermos, mismatched cups and a plate of biscuits out into the yard, sat down at a table and waited, gripping the lid in her hands. For the first half hour Ira sat alone.

Then an elderly neighbour from the ground floor sat down at the table, followed by a boy with a dog and his father. The old woman took a cup from Ira and held her hand near Ira's wrist. "What a warm scent you have, like an autumn forest," she said.

The conversation flowed by itself: about the forest, mushrooms and dachas, about dried herbs for tea. By dusk nine people were sitting at the table, and someone suggested meeting like this every week.

The next Sunday Ira took her grandfather's bowler hat off the hook, put it on and carried two thermoses out into the yard.

How it smells

The scent opens with warm saffron. The spice sounds soft and slightly leathery, with a golden sweetness.

Then the rose unfolds. It softens the spice and adds a velvety floral shade.

At the core lies oud in a modern interpretation: soft, woody-resinous, sweetish. It lasts a long time and leaves a cosy warm trail on the skin.

What makes it special

Mad Hatter belongs to the Wonderland collection, whose scents are dedicated to the characters of "Alice in Wonderland". The scents of the collection can be worn on their own or layered one over another in any combination. Vera0305 on Kosmetista calls it "woody-resinous, sunny, warm, medium-sweet, positive" and "a Sunday scent." Ladies Project describes it as "sweet, tender, alluring and at the same time a soft oud scent," "warming and enveloping, like powder." Izabo Buatett on Aromo feels herself "in an autumn spruce or even pine forest." People wear it for a warmth that brings people together.
